Why all the Skill Building will go online in the Post-Covid World?!

Remember the time we used to climb two mountains, and then swim across a river to reach school?! Oh sorry maybe it was during your dad’s time at school! No pun intended…

But soaking the current situation in, how is it different from that time, don’t you think it will be jeopardizing your health to attend the ‘school’ as we know it, let alone the evening guitar lessons two blocks away? Thus, the title. The storm of covid has uprooted the very basic customs and routines of humankind, enforcing the authorities to brainstorm ways to continue with living, as we know it, while inculcating stringent social distancing and regular sanitization as a part of regular life. Though, some of us maybe thinking that the change is a mere makeshift to meet the present demand, the fact that we have to take into consideration are the growth of some of the adversaries to the industry leads in this adversity. Platforms such as Byju’s whose co-founder and Director, Divya Gokulnath, said, in a statement, “Since our announcement last week, we have witnessed a 60% increase in the number of new students using the app to learn from home daily.” Similar were the statements from some popular UPSC coaching centers such as Chanakya and Chahal. According to popular online news site Livemint, since the lockdown, Unacademy has had a viewership of almost 30 million minutes per day!

In a survey, of almost 1500 students on the verge of joining an educational program, almost 86 percent held that they’d rather take it up online due to the following reasons:

• Social distancing: with the already present pandemic going unanswered, what are the chances of not having such a calamity surfacing in the nearby future?
• Cost: it is obvious that with reduced tuition fee and no commute along with better chances of online availability of required course materials, the cost goes down significantly.
• Variety: the one thing we can take in from the very popular IIN (idea internet network) ad campaign is that there is no need one has to bind oneself with a rigid coursework, when you are aware of the skills you actually need to earn you dream job.
• Flexibility and comfort: whether one is a night trooper or an early riser is no boundation to these online classes, with classes pre-saved or having the option to record screen, one may plan one’s own schedule with the maximum possible output.

It is clear, with these platforms toiling and stepping up to the opportunities, that the consumer will have a lot of virtual options at the comfort (and safety) of their homes. Now, there might be some hardcore believers of physical form of learning, but the above scenario will lead to the new fights of the monopoly in the virtual arena which will inevitably lead to the best of services emerge virtually.

This will then, almost synchronously, lead to consumers, i.e., you and me going online for skill building in the post covid world.
